Artist Video Messages
Pandora - Graphics Template Case Study
Something about me, I love a good template. This page is for all my process-loving neat people.
Artist Video Messages, or AVMs, are Pandora social posts that feature an artist promoting new music. Often in the form of a handheld artist-submitted video, we needed a way to create visual consistency across these recurring posts so build a fully loaded animated template for video editors to use without ever needing to tap a designer for graphics.
To start, we compiled every possible variable our partner teams might request that could influence design and messaging. Will it appear in social feed or in IG Stories? Will it click through to an artist’s new song, or to download Pandora on the app store? Folding all these into a system, I designed a suite of templates that would look and feel good on social and for the brand. Within each template are editable controls for lower thirds, bug, end card, and UI cues. One example shown below.
A main objective quickly became to engineer enough backend control to eliminate user error, while allowing flexibility for variables we couldn’t predict. So, after some rounds of pressure testing against aspect ratios, messaging, and social UI… we delivered a bundle of beautiful baby MOGRTs to our video editors, and were never asked for a lower third again!
